What color is this post?

/

It’s Friday and in light of the recent sensation of “what colour is this dress” I thought it would be fun to play a game of what colour is this post. I know what you are saying “it’s gold you bleeper” but I beg to differ I see a blue post! Anyway you can decide for yourself.

Now for some substance. If we bring this whole phenomenon full circle and look at the (air quotes) science (air quotes) behind this we can see that a lot of people have wasted a lot of time deciphering the meaning. It more extensive than the arguments over why the new light saber from the “The Force Awakens” is bad mojo. I bring forward one simple concept: “Perception“. Everyone’s perception is different so the dress can be any colour!

The point I want to make here is we can apply this concept to our tech and content as well. The principles we use are defined by our understanding and our perception. LikeĀ Obi-Wan said: “So what I told you was true, from a certain point of view.“.

To bring it home what we produce is based on our (team or individual) collective experiences. A user coming in from the dark may take a whole different meaning away. What am IĀ getting at? Produce simple concise content and code. Do not force your perception upon others. Instead, provide them with an open sandbox to explore. Your job is only to provide a nice place to play.
